Rijksmuseum 'the Masterpieces'

Project design of ‘The Masterpieces’ exhibition in the Phillips wing of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. During the current renovation of the Rijksmuseum, 400 masterpieces from the museum’s own collection remain on view to the public. The ground floor houses a display of arts and crafts and historic objects, the paintings can be found on the 1st floor. Each room is defined by its own colour and custom made display cabinets. Ornaments are displayed on the coloured walls, the patterns are based on 17th century damask linen designs. The design has taken into account the large numbers of visitors expected annually – about 600,000 - so much attention has been paid to routing, logistics and security. Now over 1 million vistors are welcomed each year.
