In 1985 the interior architect Evelyne Merkx set up her own interior design studio. In 1990 she started working together with the architect Patrice Girod, and in 1996 they founded the firm of Merkx+Girod architects, a firm for both architecture and interior design. The essence of the firm’s added value is that both exterior and interior space are completely integrated from the start of a project. Evelyne Merkx is responsible for the creative direction the firm takes; Raphael van Amerongen is responsible for general and financial management.
Each project is closely coordinated from start to finish by a group including architects, interior designers, draughtsmen, and design engineers. A project is supervised by the project architect supported by senior/junior designers and draughtsmen. Merkx+Girod has its own materials and model studio where continuous research and development on form and materials is carried out. Merkx+Girod architects now employs over 25 staff and is located in Amsterdam.
